Why I Love Creating Custom Landscape Paintings for Colorado Homes
There are certain places we never really leave.
Maybe it is the mountain where you got engaged. The lake where your family spent summers. A trail you hiked on a trip you never wanted to end. The view outside your cabin. Or simply a place that made you feel completely present for a moment.
Those are the places I love to paint.
Since moving to Colorado, I have found so much inspiration in the landscape around me. The Rocky Mountains, open valleys, changing skies, forests, and golden light all feel like an invitation to slow down and really look.
But what I love most about landscape painting is that a painting does not have to simply show you a place. It can remind you how you felt when you were there.
That is a big part of why I love creating custom artwork.
Bringing the places you love into your home
I am a contemporary landscape artist based in Colorado, and my work is inspired by mountains, oceans, forests, travel, and the places that become part of our stories.
My style sits somewhere between impressionism and contemporary abstraction. I use expressive brushwork, color, movement, and layers of paint to capture the feeling of a landscape rather than trying to recreate every detail exactly as it appears in a photograph.
When someone commissions a painting from me, I want it to feel personal.
Maybe you live in Colorado and want a painting inspired by the mountains you see every morning. Maybe you have a favorite hiking trail or a special place your family visits every year. Maybe you have a photograph from a trip that you would love to turn into something you can live with and enjoy every day.
Those stories are what make custom artwork so meaningful.
Custom mountain paintings for Colorado homes
I think original artwork has a special ability to make a house feel like your own.
This is especially true in Colorado, where the landscape is such a huge part of how people experience their homes.
A beautiful mountain home might have huge windows, natural wood, stone, warm neutral colors, and incredible views outside. A painting can bring some of that feeling into the interior while giving the space its own personality.
I create custom mountain and landscape paintings for Colorado homeowners who want something more personal than artwork chosen from a catalog.
The painting can be designed around your space, including the size of the wall, the colors in your home, the architecture, and the feeling you want the room to have.
Sometimes that means creating a dramatic, large scale mountain painting that becomes the focal point of a room. Other times, a quieter landscape is the right choice.
The important thing is that the painting feels right for you and for the place where it will live.
Artwork that was made specifically for your home
One of my favorite things about a custom painting is knowing that it could not have been made for anyone else.
I can create a painting from a meaningful photograph, a particular location, a memory, or even just a conversation about what you love.
You do not have to know exactly what you want when you reach out.
You might simply tell me, “We love the mountains and want something that feels like Colorado,” or “This was our favorite view from our trip to Switzerland.”
From there, we can talk about the colors you are drawn to, the size you need, where the painting will hang, and what you want to feel when you walk into the room.
The result is an original piece created specifically for you.
What if the place is somewhere far away?
Some of my favorite paintings have been inspired by travel.
There is something special about coming home from a trip with photographs on your phone and memories in your head, then being able to turn one of those experiences into something tangible.
A custom painting does not have to be a literal copy of your photograph.
Maybe the photograph captures a mountain range, but what you remember most is the blue in the sky and the feeling of standing there. Maybe you remember the colors of the ocean more than the details of the shoreline.
Those are the things I can bring into the painting.
I love taking those personal memories and translating them into an original piece of artwork that can stay with you long after the trip is over.
Creating artwork for collectors and interior designers
I also work with private collectors and interior designers who are looking for original landscape artwork.
For collectors, a custom painting can be a wonderful way to tell a personal story through art. Instead of choosing something simply because it looks good on a wall, you can have something created around a place, memory, or experience that actually means something to you.
For interior designers, custom artwork offers the opportunity to create something that fits a project beautifully instead of trying to find an existing piece that is almost right.
I can work with designers and homeowners on dimensions, colors, materials, architecture, and the overall feeling of a space.
This can be especially impactful in a large room where a small piece of artwork can get lost. A large scale original landscape painting can completely change the feeling of a space and give it a focal point that feels intentional and unique.
Why original artwork feels different
There is nothing wrong with buying artwork because you love how it looks.
But there is something different about owning a piece that has a story behind it.
When you look at an original painting every day, you might remember the trip that inspired it. You might remember the home you were living in when you commissioned it. You might think about the people you shared that experience with.
Over time, the painting becomes part of your own story.
That is one of the reasons I think art is such a meaningful investment for a home. You are not just buying something to put on a wall. You are choosing something you will see every day and hopefully continue to love for many years.
How does commissioning a painting work?
The process is actually pretty simple.
You start by reaching out and telling me a little about what you have in mind. You can send photographs, inspiration, information about your space, or simply tell me about the place or memory you want the painting to be inspired by.
From there, we talk about the size, colors, composition, timeline, and overall direction.
I create the painting specifically for you, rather than choosing something from an existing collection.
I accept custom landscape commissions throughout Colorado and the United States, and I work with homeowners, collectors, and interior designers.
If you are looking for a custom Rocky Mountain painting, a contemporary landscape for a mountain home, a large statement piece for your interior, or a painting inspired by somewhere meaningful to you, I would love to hear your idea.
Your home should tell your story
The things we choose to put in our homes say a lot about who we are.
The photographs on the walls. The books on the shelves. The objects we have collected over the years. The places we have traveled. The memories we want to keep close.
I think artwork can be one of the most beautiful ways to tell that story.
That is why I do not want to create paintings that simply look nice in a room. I want to create paintings that make you feel something when you see them.
If there is a mountain you love, a place you cannot stop thinking about, a photograph from a trip that means more to you than you realized, or simply a feeling you want to bring into your home, maybe it is worth turning that memory into something you can live with.
I would love to create it for you.
