How Original Art Transformed an Ellensburg Open House—and Why It's the Secret Ingredient for Home Staging Success
If you're looking for a way to instantly elevate your home’s appeal, whether you're selling or settling in, original wall art by a talented local artist may be your most powerful design tool. That’s exactly what happened at a recent open house in Ellensburg, Washington, where the entire vibe of the property was transformed by the stunning work of Erin Oostra, one of the best contemporary artists in Washington State.
From the moment potential buyers stepped through the front door, they were greeted with bold, impressionistic paintings that reflected the natural beauty of Central Washington—think golden hills, moody skies, and sweeping mountain ranges. Erin’s signature style—layered textures, fluid brushwork, and a grounded connection to place—gave the home a sense of cohesion and warmth that simple furniture staging can’t provide.
“I’ve never seen a home feel so intentional,” shared a neighbor who toured the property. “The art told a story and made everything feel connected. It made you want to stay.”
Why Art Matters in Home Staging
More and more realtors and homeowners are turning to fine art for home staging to create an emotional connection with potential buyers. Research shows that buyers are more likely to remember and feel attached to a home that feels lived-in and curated. Using original art from a single artist like Erin Oostra helps unify the visual flow of a house, creating natural transitions from room to room.
In this Ellensburg home, the consistency of Oostra’s style and palette pulled together the living room, hallway, bedroom, and even the entryway—guiding the eye and enhancing the architecture, not distracting from it.
Whether you’re working with an interior designer, home stager, or styling your own space, investing in cohesive, original art for home décor instantly elevates your interiors and adds lasting value.
Meet the Artist Behind the Work
Erin Oostra is a contemporary painter and visual designer who lives and works in Ellensburg. Her artwork is deeply rooted in the landscape of Central Washington and the greater Pacific Northwest. Born in Calgary and raised partly in Paris, Erin has lived throughout Washington, including many years in Seattle. She now calls Ellensburg home, where she runs Nuwave Gallery, a space dedicated to showcasing her art and that of other contemporary artists.
Her work is widely recognized for its emotional depth and bold use of color, and she’s frequently commissioned to create custom paintings, participate in live painting events, and stage homes throughout the region. For those searching for a local artist near me or wanting to buy art from Washington State, Erin’s work is a perfect blend of authenticity and aesthetic appeal.

As an artist coming from Seattle, my daily views used to be of Mt. Rainier. These days as I look out from the windows of my new home in Central Washington, I see the Stuart Range. The range lies within the eastern extent of the Cascade Range just southwest of Leavenworth. I’m reminded each time I see these majestic statues that with every move in life, there’s new beauty to enjoy around every corner + you never know where you might end up.

May your perspective be larger than the view from the foothills.
When the way is flat and dull in times of gray endurance,
May your imagination continue to evoke horizons.
